Tribute to Bruno Mennens, 1941 - 2026

Bruno Mennens

Our much-loved dining secretary, Bruno, sadly crossed the bar on his final journey early in the morning on March 18 at Ipswich Hospital after a short illness.

Born in Rotterdam in 1941 and educated at boarding schools by both Dominican and Carmelite orders in Amersfoort and Hengelo, he spent his final years in education at the H.P.T.S part of the Erasmus Faculty in Hull studying stress engineering and propulsion.

Later, Bruno was conscripted into military service for three and a half years during the regional conflict in the then Dutch Protectorate of New Guinea.

Back in civilian life, he worked for an oil major in supply, storage, and distribution, followed by an operational position within Europe, UK and the Middle East with both a Northern European ship owner and a local state port operator.

The funeral service was at the Seven Hills Crematorium at Nacton, Ipswich, on Wednesday 22 April. Following the funeral service, members and friends were invited by his widow Irene to the wake which was held at the Felixstowe Ferry Sailing Club.

Farthing's Funeral Services gave Irene and family a lovely web based memorial page with photographs of Bruno and family over many decades.
